As He Is So Are We In This World

One of the most dynamic truths that have huge ramifications for the believer is that Jesus was Anointed with the Holy Spirit. Why is this so significant for you and I? Let’s examine together what the scriptures say. We will begin by looking at what Jesus read from Isaiah 61.

Luke 4:17-21 NKJV  And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:  (18)  “THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED;  (19)  TO PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD.” (20)  Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him.  (21)  And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

Now many people will shout “Amen! Jesus is Anointed to do all these wonderful things.” I am just as excited about that. I am also excited about this next verse where we see Jesus teach us that we are supposed to do the same things that He did.

John 14:12-16 NKJV  “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.  (13)  And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  (14)  If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.  (15)  “If you love Me, keep My commandments.  (16)  And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-

In verse 16 we see a key. This ability to do these mighty works doesn’t come from our own efforts or ability any more than it came from Jesus own natural ability. These works come from the same Holy Spirit on you that was upon Jesus. To understand this we will look at the words “another Helper” from verse 16.

There are two Greek words that can be used for the word “another”, however they change considerably the meaning. The Greek word ‘allos‘ expresses a numerical difference and gives the understanding of “another of the same sort”. In contrast ‘heteros‘ expresses a qualitative difference and expresses “another of a different sort”.

‘Heteros – Another sort, another kind, different quality

‘Allos’Another of the same sort or kind

By way of illustration;

  • 5 oranges and 3 apples = ‘heteros’ = different quality (apples and oranges), a different sort
  • 5 oranges and 3 oranges = ‘allos’ = same quality (both oranges), just a different quantity.

This makes the previous statement in John 14 possible in that “he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” Because the same Holy Spirit on Jesus, is the same Holy Spirit on us, He is ‘another helper’, of the same kind, quality, nature etc. as Jesus had upon Him. This is why He taught His disciples that it was advantageous for Him to leave them so that they could receive His Anointing.

John 16:7 NKJV  Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

When Jesus was about to go, He reminded His disciples with the promise;

Acts 1:4-9 NKJV  And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said,“you have heard from Me;  (5)  for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”  (6)  Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”  (7)  And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.  (8)  But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”  (9)  Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

OK, so we have established that the Holy Spirit is another of the same kind, the same sort, the same quality as Jesus and of course the Father Himself. We might say they share the same Spiritual DNA. Three persons and yet One. Here is the religious sticking point for many Christians however. Many don’t see that they have been born again into the same family! In 1 Corinthians, Paul gives us understanding of the distinction of differing things;

1 Corinthians 15:39-42 NKJV  (39)  All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one(allos)kind of flesh of men, another(allos) flesh of animals, another(allos) of fish, andanother(allos) of birds.  (40)  There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one(heteros), and the glory of the terrestrial isanother(heteros).  (41)  There is one(allos) glory of the sun, another(allos) glory of the moon, and another(allos) glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory.  (42)  So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.

So, the Apostle Paul is explaining that in the natural dimension of the earth all flesh is ‘allos‘ from the same substance, i.e. the dirt. Even in the sun, moon and stars, even though they have different glory it’s the from the same kind or dimension. But verse 40 makes the distinction; “…but the glory of the celestial is one(heteros), and the glory of the terrestrial is another(heteros).”

Paul wants us to understand that “celestial” is of a different quality or kind than terrestrial. Not ‘allos‘, but different from the same kind, ‘heteros’ from another kind.

So what???? Here’s where it gets exciting. Now take the time to read through this slowly

1 Corinthians 15:42-58 NKJV  (42)  So also is the resurrection of the dead. The bodyis sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.  (43)  It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.  (44)  It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.  (45)  And so it is written, “THE FIRST MAN ADAM BECAME A LIVING BEING.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.  (46)  However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual.  (47)  The first man was of the earth, made of dust;the second Man is the Lord from heaven.  (48)  As was the man of dust, so also arethose who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who areheavenly.  (49)  And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.  (50)  Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.  (51)  Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed- (52)  in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.  (53)  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.  (54)  So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY.”  (55)  “O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING? O HADES, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY?”  (56)  The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. (57)  But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (58)  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Now you might be tempted to think that all of this is in our future. Yes, the changing of our bodies is in the near future, but that is relating only to the flesh, so that your flesh can be the same as your spiritual nature is now.

Right now you are ‘heteros‘. Your body is of a different substance to your spirit. But this scripture describes a moment when they will be ‘allos‘, different of the same kind, same source, namely heavenly!

But heavenly of what specifically?

(47)  The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven.  (48)  As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly.  (49)  And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.

That’s Jesus! The Resurrected Jesus! So is being like Jesus only in our future? Yes in terms of our physical bodies but in relations to our spirit, we have that now! Your spirit has already become ‘allos‘ with His. That’s what makes you a child of God. That’s the only reason that your spirit has access to and can live in the heavenlies, however temporarily your body can’t.  When you were born again, you became a brand new creature in Christ Jesus. Spiritually speaking you became another of the same kind of Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:16-18 NKJV  (16)  Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.  (17)  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.  (18) Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,

We are not supposed to regard each other by the flesh because that is ‘heteros‘ to what we now are. We are a new creation and God has made a new creation first from the natural to the spiritual. Something that was ‘heteros‘ that now has become ‘allos‘. “now all things are of God….”. Now we are declared “son’s of God”, “children of God”

Not only are we declared “sons of God” but we as He (Jesus) is, so are we!

1 John 4:15-17 NKJV  Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.  (16)  And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.  (17)  Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.

We can be bold in the day of judgement because the outside flesh will be judged by the inside spirit. Our judgement will be change to the same ‘allos‘. Here also is a truth, right now in the world, we are ‘allos‘ with God right now in the Spirit. “as He is”, He “is Love” “so are we in this world”. We have become His Love DNA. How? Once again, its by the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NKJV  (21)  Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God,  (22)  who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

2 Corinthians 5:4-5 NKJV  (4)  For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life.  (5)  Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

Ephesians 1:13-14 NKJV  In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,  (14)  who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

On the inside you have been made “as He is” and the Holy Spirit comes upon you ‘Anoints’ you so that you can be temporarily clothed in Him, His “allos” until yours arrives. Your internal is not limited, but your external is for now, so God sent His Holy Spirit as the guarantee, the down payment, and the same Spirit manifests in power on you, just like He did on Jesus when Jesus subjected Himself to a natural body, when He lived inside something ‘heteros‘. In the same way Jesus walked the earth, Anointed, so can you.

Acts 10:38 NKJV  how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Mark 16:15-20 NKJV  And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.  (16)  He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.  (17)  And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;  (18) they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”  (19)  So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.  (20)  And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.
